Luke Matthew Parlatore, a promising and charitable young athlete, passed away on January 27, 2002, at the age of 17. An all-volunteer, not-for-profit scholarship foundation has been established in his name. The Foundation’s intention is to award high school graduating track athletes with scholarships to their college of choice; as well as, contributing to community charities and local needs.

It is the intention of the foundation to carry out the legacy of Luke’s character, personal drive, leadership, and commitment to community.

Our mission is to support young people who embody these ideals with the intention of developing future community leaders.

The Luke M. Parlatore Scholarship Foundation believes that on Staten Island our “most valuable commodity” is our people. Our efforts to encourage community service among high school students can have a positive impact on young lives. Acknowledging high school leaders with college scholarships will help to build a stronger, more community oriented and more productive Staten Island.

By investing in our future, we all benefit.

Since 2002, Luke’s Foundation has awarded $135,000 in scholarships and contributed over $35,000 to local community charities ALL thanks to family, friends and local businesses contributions!

We also believe in leading by example. Luke’s Foundation has expanded its mission to include a community outreach program to organizations such as:

Project Hospitality, ACS (Administration for Childrens Services), CYO Track and Field, S.I. High School
Cross Country, DEP’s Adopt-a-Bluebelt, S.I. Ferry Accident Victim Paul Esposito, S.I. Cooley’s Anemia Foundation,
Alzheimer’s Foundation, Knights of Columbus, National Society of Italian Americans, American Legion,
National Chapter of The Compassionate Friends, SI Tsunami & Katrina Relief Days, Salvation Army,
Robbie Breen Memorial Fund, Lenny Ingrassia “Heart of a Lion” Foundation, Arielle Newman Memorial Fund,
St. Joseph by-the-Sea Alumni Association, The Giacomo J. Buscaino Scholarship Foundation, and many, many more.

Our inspiration … Luke Parlatore, was a promising and dedicated young man who believed in serving his community and helping others. His numerous contributions to the Red Cross, Vietnam Veterans and Alzheimer’s Foundation were worthy of several personal citations. The intentions of Luke’s Foundation are to honor and perpetuate a very special and goodhearted young man’s legacy by encouraging community service among S.I. high school students while contributing to our future leaders and local charities.
